All our mealworms are grown in the UK and never use any pupating inhibitors or growth hormones, they are fed on a diet of wheat bran and vegetables such as carrots and potatoes.

Mealworm frass is an organic fertiliser that comes from the castings of the mealworm making it a well-rounded form of plant food packed with microbial life plus Chitin. Chitin triggers the immune system in your plants supporting defence against predators like root-feeding nematodes and disease pathogens in the soil.

The frass is a natural fertiliser high in Nitrogen (N) 2%, Phosphorous (P) 2% and Potassium (K) 2%

Our frass goes through a fine sieving process to remove as much wheat bran as possible but some fine flakes and exoskeletons of the mealworms will remain.

How to Use Insect Frass in Gardens

The frass is in dry form and is easy to mix into a watering can at a rate of 1 teaspoon (5 g.) per gallon (4 L.) of water.

As a root drench, you can make a frass tea with ½ cup (118ml) per gallon (4 L.).

In vegetable or perennial beds, you can dig in the nutrients. Use 1 pound (450g.) for every 20 square feet (7 m.) and work into soil deeply.

For Transplanting add a pinch of frass under the roots.

Insect frass can be used as a drench foliar feed worked into soil, broadcast, or in a hydroponic system. It is easy to use and mild for all sorts of plants.

Please note: these are recommendations, your requirements may be different depending on your specific use and environment factors.

For best results, pre-mix into a growing media or soil when planting. If plants or already started, mix frass with water and apply as a root drench. Frass can also be applied as a top dressing, in hydroponic systems, as a foliar spray, and into transplanting holes.
